THE MALFOYS, SUPERIORITY OF PURE-BLOOD WIZARDS

Today, The Weasleys and The Grandma have been talking with Nymphadora Tonks about the current generation of The Malfoys, a wealthy pure-blood wizarding family and one of the Sacred Twenty-Eight.

Lucius Malfoy, Narcissa Malfoy and Draco Malfoy are a dark and controversial family who gained a reputation for pure-blood supremacy.

The family crest pays homage to Salazar Slytherin, bearing the colours black, green and silver, as well as images of several serpentine creatures.

The Latin words Sanctimonia Vincet Semper appear inscribed on a silver banner, meaning Purity Will Always Conquer.

Before talking about Bellatrix Lestrange, The Grandma has offered The Wesleys a new Cambridge Key English Test A2 Example.

Malfoy is the surname of a wealthy pure-blood wizarding family and one of the Sacred Twenty-Eight. They live in Malfoy Manor in Wiltshire, England.

The Malfoys are related to many other pure-blood families, including the: Blacks, Lestranges, Greengrasses, and Rosiers. They are also related to the Tonks and Lupin families, of mixed wizarding and Muggle heritage, much to the Malfoys' disdain, although they are not against marrying half-bloods.

The Malfoys gained a reputation for pure-blood supremacy. During the First and Second Wizarding Wars, they supported Lord Voldemort and some members were even Death Eaters under his command.

The Malfoy family consists of an ancient line of pure-blood wizards, most of whom attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and were traditionally sorted into Slytherin House.

The family first arrived in Britain with Armand Malfoy, who founded the family estate Malfoy Manor on land obtained from King William I.

The Malfoy family would soon gain the reputation for pure-blood supremacy and courting richness and power from those around them. Until the passing of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy in 1692, the Malfoys integrated themselves in high-class Muggle society.

Though hotly denied by subsequent generations, there is ample evidence to suggest that the first Lucius Malfoy was an unsuccessful aspirant to the hand of Elizabeth I, and some wizarding historians allege that the Queen's subsequent opposition to marriage was due to a jinx placed upon her by the thwarted Malfoy.

The Malfoys expanded their already large estate with the lands of their Muggle neighbours, and dabbled successfully into Muggle currency and assets, becoming one of the wealthiest families in wizarding Britain. Though they opposed the Statute of Secrecy at first, they soon embraced it and cut off all ties with Muggle families, denying that they had ever fraternised with such people.

After this period, the Malfoys instead began to seek influence over the newly formed British Ministry of Magic, using their considerable wealth to do so. Though no Malfoy is known to have ever aspired for the position of Minister for Magic, many members of the family financed the elections of their preferred candidates for the post, even going so far as to pay to have the opposition hexed.

I know I'll be in Slytherin,
all our family have been.

Draco Malfoy

Lucius Malfoy is a British pure-blood wizard, and son of Abraxas Malfoy, husband of Narcissa Black, the father of Draco Malfoy and the grandfather of Scorpius Malfoy. Lucius was educated at Hogwarts, where he was made a prefect in Slytherin House.

As an adult, Lucius was an aristocratic wizard and patriarch of the Malfoy family, believing strongly in notions of blood purity and the superiority of pure-blood wizards. He joined the Death Eaters, who shared his views on blood purity, and participated in the First Wizarding War.

After Lord Voldemort's first defeat, Lucius managed to avoid imprisonment by claiming that he had been acting under the Imperius Curse. He and his family remained members of the social elite, though Lucius continued to demonstrate his prejudice.

He attempted to sabotage Arthur Weasley's career by slipping Arthur's daughter an old school diary of Tom Riddle's, opening the Chamber of Secrets. He also participated in the humiliation of a Muggle family after the Quidditch World Cup.

When Lord Voldemort returned, Lucius once again served him as a Death Eater, leading the efforts to obtain the prophecy Lord Voldemort sought. In the battle that ensued, the prophecy was destroyed, and Lucius and his comrades were imprisoned in Azkaban.

Although Lord Voldemort broke them out of prison, he was displeased with Lucius for his failures and treated the Malfoys with much disdain and abuse.

Lucius and his family finally rebelled against Lord Voldemort's tyranny and defected before the end of the Battle of Hogwarts, with them all surviving the Second Wizarding War.

Because he and his family defected from the Death Eaters they were pardoned for their crimes after Lord Voldemort's final defeat and did not serve a stint in Azkaban.

Lucius Malfoy was born to Abraxas Malfoy. He was born  into a very old, wealthy and gentry wizarding family, and raised in the lap of luxury at the family estate, a magnificent mansion in Wiltshire which had been in his family's possession for many centuries.

Lucius graduated Hogwarts, but being independently wealthy, had no need to seek employment. At some point, he married Narcissa Black; their son, and only child, Draco was born.

More information: Wizarding World I & II

Lucius became one of Lord Voldemort's Death Eaters and helped wage the First Wizarding War in an attempt to bring down the Ministry of Magic. Some of his activities may have included taking the lead in the torturing of Muggles.

Lucius had a pale, pointed face, with pale blond hair and cold grey eyes. He often carried a walking stick with a snake head that contained his wand.

After spending a year in the wizarding prison of Azkaban, possibly suffering the horrors of the Dementors' presence, his looks suffered greatly because of it, his skin taking on a yellowish and waxy look, and his eyes sunken and shadowed. His voice was also quite hoarse.

After having been a victim of the Dark Lord's wrath upon Harry Potter's escape from the Manor, Lucius' looks took a turn for the worse, as he seemed ragged, and he carried traces of his punishment, meaning he might have looked beaten and bruised. It is likely that his looks might have improved upon the fall of his former Master once he returned to everyday life.

As a Death Eater, he bore the Dark Mark on his left inner forearm; this had faded to a mere scar upon Lord Voldemort's death. His son Draco resembled him strongly. I

The name Lucius may come from the Roman dictator Lucius Cornelius Sulla, who extrajudicially executed his rivals. His name could also be a reference to the Roman Emperor Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, also known as Nero. Lucius is a name that derives from Latin meaning bright or intelligent and is related to the name Lucifer, the first name of Satan, which may reference Lucius Malfoy being bright but evil, or just evil.

Malfoy is derived from the French mal foi or mal foy, meaning bad faith or unfaithful.

A Latin male first name. A character in Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar, Lucius is the servant of Brutus, the leader of the conspirators who plot against and assassinate Caesar.

Lucius Malfoy

Narcissa Malfoy, née Black, is an English pure-blood witch, the youngest daughter of Cygnus and Druella Black, younger sister of Bellatrix Lestrange and Andromeda Tonks, wife of Lucius Malfoy and mother of Draco Malfoy.

Although never officially a Death Eater herself, Narcissa believed in the importance of blood purity and supported her husband in following Lord Voldemort during the First and Second Wizarding Wars. This changed, however, when her husband was incarcerated in Azkaban and her son's life was put in jeopardy by Lord Voldemort.

Narcissa took necessary measures to protect her family, including lying to Lord Voldemort about Harry Potter being dead during the Battle of Hogwarts, an act which saved the Malfoys from serving time in Azkaban following the Dark Lord's defeat.

Narcissa Black was the youngest daughter of Cygnus and Druella Black, born in 1955 in the aristocratic House of Black. She had two older sisters, Bellatrix and Andromeda.

Narcissa was taught the philosophy of blood purity from a young age and grew up prejudiced in favour of pure-bloods. Thus, like her sister Bellatrix, she cut off contact with her sister Andromeda after she was disowned and burned off the Black family tree for marrying Muggle-born wizard Ted Tonks.

Narcissa was educated at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Sorted into Slytherin House, she met her future husband, Lucius Malfoy, whilst at Hogwarts.

Narcissa Malfoy was described as tall, slim, nice looking, and very pale, with blue eyes, long blonde hair, and a clear, cold voice. Her hair colouring thus differed from most of the House of Black, who generally had dark hair, though Narcissa did possess the arrogant good looks that are a common characteristic of her family.

More information: Wizarding World I, II & III

Despite her physical differences to her sisters, Bellatrix and Andromeda, Harry Potter did describe her as resembling Bellatrix somewhat, though Narcissa was as fair as Bellatrix was dark.

Narcissa's beauty was somewhat marred by her donning an expression that suggested that she was sniffing dung whenever she was in the company of those she considered her inferiors.

Narcissa Malfoy
Harry Potter once insulted her son Draco by asking if she only had this expression when Draco was with her.

Narcissa was a very proud woman who frequently displayed a haughty and disdainful attitude, looking down upon others as she believed strongly in the importance of blood purity and valued her family's wealth. Unlike many others of the House of Black, Narcissa does not appear to be named after a star or constellation.

The name Narcissa is derived from Narcissus, a beautiful but vain character in Greek mythology from which the term narcissism, which refers to vanity and elitism, is derived. The name can also be derived from the flower by the same name, also known as daffodil.

The name of the plant may also be derived from the Greek word narkoa, to numb, referring to its narcotic properties. There is also a Slytherin connection to Narcissa's name due to its association with the Narcisse snake pits.

Malfoy is derived from the French mal foi or mal foy, meaning bad faith or unfaithful.

THERE IS A CHAMBER OF SECRETS AT HOGWARTS...

The Jones in front of a written wall in Hogwarts
Today, The Jones have visited the Chamber of Secrets at Hogwarts. They have discovered thousands of English Grammar Books which talk about Present Simple, Social English, Prepositions of Place and There is/There are

It has been an intensive morning reviewing this part of the grammar, learning new prepositions and talking about places and buildings.

The family has also found a fantastic book about another famous hero: Asterix The Gaul, the brave small man who saved his town from the Roman invasion in the Gallia. They have created an interesting composition paying attention to the structure and the three most important characteristics: cohesion, coherence and adequation.

More information: There is-There are

After a fantastic breakfast offered by Marta Jones, The Jones have chosen their school at Hogwarts and they have started to play different games to train their memory and vocabulary.

Finally, they have created some personal and psychologic profiles which are very useful to add in a CV.

Marta Jones and her sweet round cookies
Tomorrow, The Jones are going to create a story taking some information sources and joining them with connectors and they're going to visit some places inside Hogwarts to review some vocabulary about places and buildings. They are also going to welcome spring with a fantastic Poetry Contest where they're going to show their skills in composition, metrics and rhythm.

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry spends the summer with The Dursleys without receiving letters from his Hogwarts friends. In his room, Harry meets Dobby, a house-elf, who warns him of a peril that will take shape if he returns to Hogwarts, and reveals he intercepted his friends' letters, and destroys a cake. The Dursleys lock Harry up, but Ron, Fred and George Weasley rescue him in their father's flying car.

While purchasing school supplies, Harry and the Weasley family encounter Rubeus Hagrid and Hermione Granger, and they attend a book-signing by celebrity wizard Gilderoy Lockhart, who announces that he will be the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. During a small confrontation with Draco Malfoy, Harry meets his father, Lucius, who slips a book in Ginny Weasley's belongings.

Rubeus Hagrid
When Harry and Ron are blocked from entering Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, they fly to Hogwarts in the flying car, crashing into the Whomping Willow upon arrival. Ron's wand is damaged, and the car ejects them before driving off. Both boys narrowly avoid expulsion when Professor McGonagall gives them detention.

While serving detention with Lockhart, Harry hears strange voices and later finds caretaker Argus Filch's cat, Mrs. Norris, petrified, along with a message written in blood announcing the Chamber of Secrets has been opened.

Minerva McGonagall explains that one of Hogwarts' founders, Salazar Slytherin, supposedly constructed a secret Chamber and placed a monster that only his Heir can control inside it, to purge the school of impure-blooded wizards and witches. Harry and Ron suspect Malfoy is the Heir, so Hermione suggests that they question him while disguised using polyjuice potion. They utilise a disused bathroom haunted by a ghost, Moaning Myrtle, as their makeshift laboratory to brew the potion.

When Harry communicates with a snake, the school believes he is the Heir. On Christmas Day, Harry and Ron learn that Malfoy is not the Heir, but he mentions that a girl died when the Chamber was last opened fifty years ago. Harry finds an enchanted diary, owned by a former student named Tom Marvolo Riddle, which shows him a flashback to fifty years before, where Riddle accused Hagrid, then a student, of opening the Chamber. When the diary is stolen and Hermione is petrified, Harry and Ron question Hagrid.

Professor Albus Dumbledore, Cornelius Fudge, and Lucius Malfoy, come to take Hagrid to Azkaban, but he discreetly tells the boys to follow the spiders. In the Forbidden Forest, Harry and Ron meet Hagrid's giant pet spider Aragog, who tells them that Hagrid was innocent and provides them with a small clue about the Chamber's resident monster. Aragog then sets his colony of Acromantula on the boys, but the now-wild flying car saves them.

A book page in Hermione's hand identifies the monster as a basilisk, a giant serpent that instantly kills those that make direct eye contact with it; the petrified victims only saw it indirectly. The school staff learn that Ginny was taken into the Chamber, and convince Lockhart to save her.

Minerva McGonagall
Harry and Ron find Lockhart, exposed as a fraud, planning to flee; knowing Myrtle was the girl the Basilisk killed, they take him to her bathroom and find the Chamber's entrance. Once inside, Lockhart uses Ron's damaged wand against them, but it backfires, wiping his memory, and causes a cave-in.

Harry enters the Chamber alone and finds Ginny unconscious, guarded by Tom Riddle. Riddle reveals that he used the diary to manipulate Ginny and reopen the Chamber. When Riddle creates the anagram for his future new identity, "I am Lord Voldemort" from his full name, Harry realises that Riddle himself is Slytherin's heir and Voldemort was only a pseudonym. After Harry expresses support for Dumbledore, Dumbledore's Fawkes flies in with the Sorting Hat, and Riddle summons the Basilisk. Fawkes blinds the Basilisk, and the Sorting Hat eventually produces a sword with which Harry battles and slays the Basilisk, but he is injured by its fangs.

Harry defeats Riddle and revives Ginny by stabbing the diary with a basilisk fang. Fawkes's tears heal him, and he returns to Hogwarts with his friends and a baffled Lockhart. Dumbledore praises them and orders for Hagrid's release. Dumbledore shows Harry the sword he wielded was Godric Gryffindor's own sword, and says he is different from Voldemort, because he chose Gryffindor House instead of Slytherin House. Harry accuses Lucius, Dobby's master, of planting the diary in Ginny's cauldron and tricks him into freeing Dobby. The Basilisk's victims are healed, Hermione reunites with Harry and Ron, and Hagrid returns.

In a post-credits scene, Lockhart has published a new autobiography, Who Am I?

DISCOVERING THE WORLD OF HOGWARTS: THE VILLAINS

The Villains
DEMENTORS
GUARDS OF AZKABAN PRISON
Dementors are dark creatures that thrive in despair and drain hope and happiness out of the air around them. A Dementor's kiss, if long enough, will suck the soul from your body.

ARGUS FILCH
CARETAKER AT HOGWARTS
Argus Filch enjoys enforcing the rules at Hogwarts and catching students out of line -mentioning at one point that he misses the dungeons the school used to incorporate in its discipline. He joins Dolores Umbridge's inquisitorial squad during Harry's fifth year to bring about the demise of Dumbledore's Army.

QUIRINUS QUIRRELL
DEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS
PROFESSOR AT HOGWARTS DURING HARRY'S FIRST YEAR
The body of this seemingly unassuming man with a pronounced stutter is used by Lord Voldemort as he tries to steal the Sorcerer's Stone from Hogwarts.

DRACO MALFOY
DEATH EATER
Draco Malfoy is Harry's archenemy at Hogwarts from their first day at the school. His eventual involvement with Lord Voldemort brings his battle with Harry to a bloody climax during their sixth year -and his actions on behalf of the dark Lord alter Hogwarts forever.

BELLATRIX LESTRANGE
DEATH EATER
One of Voldemort's most loyal supporters, Bellatrix Lestrange drove Neville Longbottom's parents to insanity with the Cruciatus Curse during the Dark Lord's first rise to power, and upon her escape from Azkaban, murders her cousin Sirius Black in the battle at the Ministry of Magic.

LUCIUS MALFOY
DEATH EATER
Lucius Malfoy is Draco's father, and a supporter of Voldemort. He places Tom Riddle's diary in Ginny Weasley cauldron at Flourish and Blotts just before Harry's second year at Hogwarts, eventually causing the release of the basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets and nearly killing several students.

LORD VOLDEMORT
THE DARK LORD
Known as "He Who Must Not Be Named" and "You-Know-Who" to many who fear to speak his name aloud, Voldemort is considered the most evil wizard of all time. His thirst for power and for a pureblood wizard race has resulted in the deaths of countless witches and wizards -including Harry's parents, James and Lily Potter.

DOLORES UMBRIDGE
SENIOR UNDERSECRETARY TO THE MINISTER FOR MAGIC
DEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS
PROFESSOR AT HOGWARTS DURING HARRY'S FOURTH YEAR
Behind her sickly sweet smile and demeanour, Dolores Umbridge is a vile witch who risks the lives of her students at Hogwarts by refusing to teach them defensive magic. Her sadistic nature is evidenced by her use of s "special" quill for student punishments; it carves lines into the back of the writer's hand, and writes with their blood.
