Today, The Grandma has been reading about labourrisks or occupationalhazards.
An occupational hazard is any workplace condition that causes a risk to employee health. There are defined six main categories of occupational hazards:
-Safety. This category includes any condition, substance, or object that can injure a worker, like working from heights, spills on floors, machinery with moving parts, confined spaces, steep stairs, or exposed electrical wiring.
-Chemical. There are many kinds of hazardous chemicals and toxins in different workplaces, including environmental smoke, cleaning products, acids, pesticides, carbon monoxide, and flammable liquids.
-Biological. In some settings, such as farms, zoos, hospitals or medical offices, or veterinary clinics, workers can be exposed to biological health hazards like blood, fungi, mold, viruses, animal droppings, and insect bites.
-Physical. These are hazards in the environment that can harm your body without you actually touching it, like radiation, prolonged exposure to sunlight, extreme high or low temperatures, and loud noise.
-Ergonomic. These hazards put strain on your body over a period of time. You may just feel sore or cramped in the short term, but repeatedly sitting or standing in awkward positions or completing the same movements over and over, across a long period of time, can lead to long-term injury and illness.
-Work organization hazards. Workplace violence, discrimination, lack of respect, sexual harassment, and other conditions are hazardous to mental, emotional, and physical health.
To talk about risks in chemistry, TheGrandma has been talking with SeamusFinnigan, a Gryffindor student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, who is a specialist in explosions and in mistaken potions and spells.
Before talking with Seamus, TheGrandma has met Poppy Pomprey, the matron in the hospital wing, who has been explaining her labour risks in medicine, and with Cedrid Diggory, who has explained her labour risks in sports.
Seamus Finnigan is an Irish half-blood wizard, son of Muggle Mr Finnigan and Irishwitch Mrs Finnigan. Mr Finnigan did not learn this until after they were married and it gave him a nasty shock when he first learned it.
Seamus was a Gryffindor student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was also the best friend of Dean Thomas.
Seamus originally doubted Harry Potter's claim that Lord Voldemort
had returned in 1995, as his mother doubted it. However, late in 1995
he eventually joined Dumbledore's Army. The D.A. was an organisation
taught and led by HarryPotter. Seamus joined after apologising to Harry.
He continued his seventh year of education at Hogwarts, although the school was under the control of Voldemort. Seamus
remained in the D.A. and fought bravely in the Battle of Hogwarts. It
is currently unknown what he did after the Second Wizarding War.
Seamus was born to Muggle Mr Finnigan and his witch wife. It was mentioned that Seamus' father had no idea that his wife was a witch before they married and it came as a nasty shock to him when he found out, but nevertheless accepted it.
Seamus came from an Irish family, as suggested by his name, and as shown in the Quidditch World Cup he attended just before his fourth year. It is possible that Seamus is from Kenmare, County Kerry due to his support of the local Quidditch team and him and his mother support of the Irish NationalQuidditch team in the Quidditch World Cup. He had an older cousin named Fergus, who would frequently Apparate just to annoy him. Seamus had plans to annoy Fergus back, once he passed his apparition test.
Seamus arrived at HogwartsSchool ofWitchcraft and Wizardry with other students like Harry Potter, RonWeasley, HermioneGranger, and DracoMalfoy.
When Professor Minerva McGonagall asked the
first years to form a line to head into the Great Hall, Seamus ended up in front of HarryPotter. When Seamus'name was called during the Sorting ceremony, he waited for almost a minute before the SortingHat placed him into Gryffindor. After joining the Gryffindor table, Seamus was introduced to the Gryffindor house ghost Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, who students often called Nearly Headless Nick. Seamus asked how one could be nearly headless, to which Nick demonstrated by pulling his head off of his neck, which disgusted most of the table.
During his first Potions lesson the next Friday, Seamus was partnered with Neville Longbottom to brew a Boil-Cure Potion. Neville managed to melt Seamus' cauldron and was drenched in their potion. Professor Severus Snape told Seamus to take Neville to the Hospital Wing, which he did.
When the Gryffindor first years learned about their first flying lesson with Madam Hooch, Seamus bragged that in his youth he spent most of his time flying around the countryside.
During Charms class on Hallowe'en morning, Seamus was partnered with Harry to practise the Levitation Charm. While practising, Seamus managed to set fire to their feather with his wand, and Harry had to put it out with his hat. Seamus would have many such experiences throughout his school career.
Before leaving Hogwarts for the Christmas holiday, Seamus lent Harry his Wizard's Chess pieces so Harry could learn how to play.
He survived the Second Wizarding War and was seen sitting with Dean Thomas and Aberforth Dumbledore
once the battle had ended. It is unknown what happened to him after the
war. It can be assumed that he attended the reunion of Dumbledore's
Army.
Being a Gryffindor, Seamus usually wore a red-and-gold tie and a black jumper along with his black Hogwarts robes. His uniform was always scruffy and untidy, making him look like a slob.
During Seamus's final year at Hogwarts, his face had been battered and bruised by the Carrows to an extent that neither Harry nor Dean Thomas could recognise him, until he spoke with his distinct Irish accent. Seamus had sandy coloured hair.
Through his school years, Seamus
generallyappeared good-natured and easy-going. He was also rather
clumsy, as he set fire to a feather he was supposed to be levitating in
his first year. He seems to display traits of more than one Hogwarts house, since the Sorting Hat had to think for almost a minute before deciding to sort him into Gryffindor. Seamus is also very curious, asking Professor Quirinus Quirrell where he got his turban, Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington how he could be nearly headless and Professor Severus Snape about Inferi.
Of all the boys in Harry's dormitory, Seamus was the least enthusiastic supporter of Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore, often demonstrating scepticism of Harry's claims. However, after reading Rita Skeeter's interview with Harry in the fifth year, he apologised to Harry and sent a copy to his mam, as she did not believe that Lord Voldemort was back. He did join Dumbledore's Army, although he did not sign the actual membership list of the group.
After Dumbledore's events the following year, Seamus insisted on remaining at Hogwarts,
despite his mother's wish to remove him immediately from the perceived
dangers at the school, demonstrating his allegiance to Dumbledore and
Harry.
Seamus also demonstrated the characteristic bravery and loyalty of his house by opposing the Death Eaters at great personal risk during his final year at Hogwarts and in the final battle.
Seamus was able to conjure a corporeal fox Patronus.
This charm is an incredibly advanced piece of magic and is proof of
superior magical ability. He also demonstrated his superior skills in
duelling by surviving the Battle of Hogwarts.
Seamus is an Irish version of the name James, which means supplanter, one who takes the place of another, usually by force. Finnigan is an Irish name that includes finn (white, fair) and means fair-haired one.
Today, The Grandma wants to talk about Dumbledore's Army, a secret organisation initiated by HarryPotter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasleyto teach their fellow Hogwarts colleagues proper Defence Against the Dark Arts.
Dumbledore's Army, also known as the D.A., was a secret organisation initiated by Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley to teach their fellow Hogwarts colleagues proper Defence Against the Dark Arts. It was founded by Hermione, but taught and led by Harry.
This organisation was made necessary by the refusal of Dolores Umbridge, the subject's professor, to teach anything in her classes other than textbook theory.
It was originally founded with twenty-eight members. The group was disbanded following the appointment of Severus Snape as Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, although several members heeded the call and participated in the Battle of the Astronomy Tower at the end of the year.
It was restarted by Neville Longbottom, Ginny Weasley, and LunaLovegood after Hogwarts fell under the control of Lord Voldemort
in order to oppose Death Eater professors Alecto and Amycus Carrow, who
spread propaganda against Muggles and Muggle-borns and taught the Dark
Arts.
Dumbledore's Army
played a vital role during the Second Wizarding War, and members of the
organisation fought in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, the
Battle of the Astronomy Tower, and the Battle of Hogwarts.
Oliver, this is mad, you can't let Harry deal with that thing on his own. Let's ask for an inquiry
Alicia Spinnet is a British witch and a Gryffindor student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She played as a reserve Chaser and later Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. During her Hogwarts years, she became close friends with Hermione Granger, Cho Chang, Katie Bell, and Angelina Johnson.
In her seventh year, she joined Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter. She returned at Hogwarts in order to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts against Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters.
It can be assumed that Alicia
survived the final battle of the Second Wizarding War since she was not
listed amongst the casualties. What she did in her later life is
currently unknown.
Alicia Spinnet attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and was sorted into Gryffindor House. There, she
became best friends with fellow Gryffindors Katie Bell, Angelina
Johnson, Lee Jordan, Oliver Wood, and the twins Fred and George Weasley
who all shared an interest in Quidditch.
Alicia tried out for the Gryffindor Quidditch
team and made reserve position; according to a comment by Lee Jordan,
she was a good pick by Oliver, meaning she had an impressive skill at
Quidditch but still only made reserve.
Alicia is related to Alice and ultimately the German Adalheid, meaning noble type (of person) also kind and beauty. The last name really exists and is often spelled Spinnett. A spinet a small upright piano. Alicia's name also may be a variation of spinner or spinney, a small grove of trees.
Get
back in position, she's fine! But as you're passing to a teammate,
do
try not to knock her off her broom won't you?
We've got Bludgers for
that!
Angelina Johnson is a witch and a Gryffindor student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was also a member of Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter.
She was also the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team in her seventh year, which was also Harry's fifth year.
Two
years after she had left school, she returned and fought in the Battle
of Hogwarts against the Dark Wizard Lord Voldemort and his followers. Sometime
after the end of the Second Wizarding War, she married George Weasley,
and the couple had two children, Fred II and Roxanne Weasley.
When she was eleven, Angelina was accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and visited Diagon Alley to purchase the required equipment for school, including her wand.
Angelina is a Latin diminutive of the name Angela, which is derived from the Greek άγγελος, angelos, meaning messenger or angel. Johnson means son of John.
Hey -you can come and sit with us, if you like, Harry!
Colin Creevey is a Muggle-born wizard, son of Mr Creevey and Mrs Creevey, and older brother of Dennis. He was a big fan of the famous Harry Potter, who was a year ahead of him in school.
During his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he was sorted into Gryffindor House. He was known for taking several pictures of Harry and other students.
During his fourth year, he and Dennis became members of Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter. Colin was expelled from Hogwarts in his sixth year, due to Voldemort's
policy of not allowing Muggle-borns to attend the school. He snuck into the Room of Requirement with the rest of Dumbledore's Army and fought in the Battle of Hogwarts, during which he was killed by the Death Eaters.
Colin Creevey grew up in an ordinary Muggle family. He was the son of a milkman and was amazed to find out he was a wizard who could attend Hogwarts. Colin
was continually awestruck at everything to do with the wizarding world.
Colin had a younger brother named Dennis, who was also a wizard, an
unusual thing to occur for two magical offspring to come from Muggle
parents.
Colin is an anglicised form of the Gaelic name Cailean or Coileain, meaning whelp, pup or young cub. It can also be derived from the name Nicholas, meaning victorious people.
Creevey is an English surname of Celtic origin, and is a contraction of MacCreevey, meaning son of Reevey.
It could also be a surname of Irish origin with variant spellings Creevy and Creavagh, is an Anglicised form of the Gaelic O'Craoibhe meaning descendant of Craobhach, a byname meaning curly (-headed) or prolific, from craobh meaning branch, bough".
We're
fighting, aren't we? The message said Harry was back,
and we were going
to fight! I'll have to get a wand, though....
Dean Thomas is an English half-blood wizard, the son of a wizard and a Muggle mother. When Dean Thomas was very young, his father died and his mother married another man, giving Dean several half-siblings. Since Dean's father never told his mother that he was a wizard and was eventually murdered by Death Eaters when he refused to join them, Dean grew up thinking he was Muggle-born.
Dean was a Gryffindor student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was in the same year as the famous Harry Potter and played as a Chaser for his house's Quidditch team for a time. In his fifth year, he joined Dumbledore'sArmy, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter. Dean,
although a half-blood, could not prove that he had any wizarding
heritage and was therefore in danger when Lord Voldemort took control of
the Ministry of Magic.
Dean
was forced to go on the run to avoid arrest and imprisonment by the
Muggle-Born Registration Commission, missing his seventh year of
schooling. He was eventually captured by Snatchers, but escaped Malfoy Manor along with several other prisoners and soon returned to Hogwarts School of Witchcraftand Wizardry to participate in the Battle of Hogwarts.
Dean
survived the Second Wizarding War and was seen after the final battle
sitting next to Seamus Finnigan and Aberforth Dumbledore in the Great
Hall. His later life however, remains unknown.
Dean means head or leader and is often the title of a department chief at a college or university. Thomas means twin.
When he had lined up with his terrified-looking peers,
he
caught Colin Creevey's eye, gave a double thumbs-up,
and mouthed, I fell
in the lake!
He looked positively delighted about it.
Dennis Creevey is a Muggle-born wizard and the younger brother of Colin Creevey. He was a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry three years below Harry Potter. Like
his brother, he was Sorted into Gryffindor. His father was a milkman.
In his second year, he joined Dumbledore's Army, an organisation led and
taught by Harry Potter.
Dennis was born into the Muggle Creevey family. Dennis' father was a milkman, and his mother was also a Muggle. Dennis' older brother, Colin Creevey, received a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry informing his family that Colin was a wizard, something which came of a shock to the family as Colin was a Muggle-born.
Dennis also received a letter from Hogwarts, something which was very rare for a Muggle family: to bear two magically-gifted children.
Dennis comes from the name Dionysos; In Greek mythology Dionysos was the god of wine, revelry, fertility and dance.
Creevey is an actual English surname. It's an Anglicised form of the Gaelic O'Craoibhe meaning descendant of Craobhach, a byname meaning curly (-headed) or prolific, from craobh meaning branch, bough.
No.
Everyone's been asking me, but I haven't got a clue.
The last thing I
remember was walking into the ladies'
in the Three Broomsticks.
Katie Bell is a witch and a Gryffindor student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was a Chaser for the Gryffindor Quidditch team. During her Hogwarts
years, she became incredibly close friends with Angelina Johnson and
Alicia Spinnet, who were Gryffindors from the year above her.
In her sixth year, she joined Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter.
During her seventh year, she was tortured by a cursed Opal Necklace andrecovered at St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.
Katie left Hogwarts
but returned in order to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts against Lord
Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Katie survived the Second Wizarding War
and her later life is currently unknown.
Katie was born in Great Britain or Ireland. She lived with her parents in an unknown place.
Katie is derived from Katherine, which itself is derived from the Greek name Αικατερίνη,from the name of the goddess Hecate (who is, perhaps coincidentally, the goddess of magic). It could be related to Greek αικία, aikia, meaning torture, which is relative as Katie was tortured during her seventh year.
Bell
is an English name with various meanings: a person who lived by a town
or church bell; a bell-ringer, as in a church; beautiful or handsome,
alluding to her attractiveness.
Friends,
don't make me laugh. She didn't talk to him
for weeks after he started
going out with me!
But I suppose she wants to make up with him now he's
all interesting...
Lavender Brown is a pure-blood witch, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Brown, and sorted into Gryffindor. She started her education at Hogwarts School ofWitchcraft and Wizardry, the same year as the famous Harry Potter.
While at Hogwarts Lavender began studying Divination, which she was fascinated by. In her fifth year she joined Dumbledore's Army. This
was an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter, despite initially
doubting Harry's claims that Lord Voldemort had returned.
The following year she started an exhibitionist relationship with Ron Weasley, though they soon broke up.
In her final year of schooling Lavender joined the reconstituted D.A. to oppose Death Eater control of Hogwarts and fought in the Battle of Hogwarts.
Lavender was born to Mr and Mrs Brown, two pure-bloods. She received her acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraftand Wizardry at age eleven, and purchased her equipment from Diagon Alley before the start of her first year.
Lavender
is a type of flower, as well as a name for the pale shade of purple of
the blossoms. In flower symbolism, the lavender can symbolise affection,
cleansing, or concealment. The Ancient Romans used lavender to scent
baths, and its name is derived from the Latin verb lavāre, to wash. In Western
culture, the colour lavender can sometimes be used to symbolise
decadence and the enjoyment of sensuality. Interestingly, Lavender is a colour and her last name is Brown, which is also a colour.
And what would you say, Royal, to those listeners who reply that in these dangerous times, it should be 'wizards first'?
Lee Jordan is a wizard, son of Mr and Mrs. Jordan, and a Gryffindor student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a couple of years before Harry. During his years at Hogwarts,
he became best friends with Fred and George Weasley and liked doing
pranks with them. He often helped them work on their inventions and
tricks, some of which were eventually sold at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.
Lee also served as a QuidditchCommentator during his Hogwarts years and was a member of Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter.
After Hogwarts,
he hosted a radio show, Potterwatch, in order to inform and encourage
the wizarding world, advising how they could all be protected from Lord
Voldemort. He fought in the Battle of Hogwarts and was devastated by the
loss of Fred. He survived the war, though his later life is unknown.
Lee was born in Great Britain or Ireland. He was the son of a wizard.
The Jordan
is a river in Southwest Asia flowing to the Dead Sea; the river serves
as the eastern border of Israel. Similarly, there are several rivers
throughout the world named Lee, including rivers in England, Ireland, and Canada. Thus, when on Potterwatch Lee's code name is River, the name is very appropriate. Lee can also refer to the lee side of a ship, which would be the side protected from the wind or downwind. Lee can also mean a field or meadow. Jordan can also mean to flow or descend. Jordan
is also old English for a chamber pot, a small container in the
bedroom, used for going to the bathroom, before indoor plumbing.
Nigel Wolpert is a wizard and a student who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was sorted into Gryffindor House.
Nigel was an avid fan and friend of the famous Harry Potter and was a memberofDumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry.
Nigel fought in the Battle of Hogwarts, despite being underage at the time. He fought alongside his friends and presumably survived.
Nigel was born in Great Britain or Ireland.
Nigel is derived from the Latin Nigellus.
The name Nigel also has Scottish origin in which it means Champion.
The name Wolpert means descendent of Waldobert. Waldobert is a Germanic name composed of the elements wald, meaning rule, and beraht, meaning bright. It was the name of a 7th-century French saint.
She says I've got all the makings of a true Seer. I saw loads of stuff...
Parvati Patil is a British witch of Indian heritage, daughter of Mr and Mrs Patil, and the identical twin sister of Padma. She was sorted into Gryffindor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but her sister Padma was sorted into Ravenclaw. Parvati became best friends with Lavender Brown, with whom she shared many interests, such as a love for Divination. Parvati attended the Yule Ball with Harry Potter, and a year later she joined Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter.
During her
seventh year, she continued her studies at Hogwarts, when it was under
the control of Lord Voldemort and the same year Parvati fought at the Battle of Hogwarts against Voldemort and his Death Eaters It can be
assumed that she survived the battle, as her name was not listed among
the Fallen Fifty. If she did survive, what she did in her later life is
unknown.
Parvati
was born to an unnamed father and mother as one of their twin
daughters; the other being Padma. She was apparently familiar with Pansy
Parkinson prior to her enrollment at HogwartsSchool of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Parvati is the name of a Hindu goddess of strength, consort of Shiva and daughter of the Himalayas. She was renowned for her beauty. Parvati translates into she of the mountains in Sanskrit. Patil
is a common Marathi surname in the Indian state of Maharashtra, while
the alternatively spelled Patel is a common Gujarati surname in the
state of Gujarat.
Their daring, nerve and chivalry set Gryffindors apart.
Gryffindor's Motto
ANTHONY GOLDSTEIN
Hiya, Harry. I heard you'd found somewhere for the D.A. to meet.
Anthony Goldstein is a half-blood wizard who began attendingHogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was Sorted into Ravenclaw house. In his fifth year he was selected as one of his House's prefects and joined Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and lead by Harry Potter. Anthony later fought beside fellow D.A. members in the Battle of Hogwarts the last battle of the Second Wizarding War.
Anthony
was born into the Goldstein family. He had at least one magical parent
and was distantly related to Porpentina and Queenie Goldstein. He was
also Jewish.
Anthony was part of the revived D.A.,
hiding in the Room of Requirement. He bravely fought in the Battle of
Hogwarts. It can be assumed that he survived the final battle, since he
was not mentioned among the fallen fifty. After the battle he most
likely kept his D.A. coin, as a badge of honour, as did other D.A. members.
Anthony was an Egyptian ascetic monk considered to be the founder of Christian monasticism. Goldstein is a relatively common Jewish surname, which is a part of his Jewish heritage.
If
you'd like to see what the diadem's supposed to look like,
I could take
you up to our common room and show you, Harry. Ravenclaw's wearing it
in her statue.
Cho Chang is a witch who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Ravenclaw House.
She was a Seeker for the RavenclawQuidditch team and a popular student. In Cho's fifth year, she began dating Cedric Diggory while he was a Champion in the Triwizard Tournament.
In her sixth year, against her parents' wishes, she joined Dumbledore's Army,an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter. In the same year she also began a romantic relationship with Harry. However, Cho's best friend Marietta Edgecombe betrayed the D.A.. After her friend's betrayal, Cho and Harry's relationship fell apart. She remained loyal to her school and to the D.A., returning after she had graduated to participate in the Battle of Hogwarts.
Cho survived the Second Wizarding War and eventually married a Muggle.
Cho
was born into a wizarding family, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Chang.
She became a great Quidditch fan at the age of six, and cheered for the
Tutshill Tornados.
Cho is a common Sinitic and Korean name. Chang is a Chinese family name, depending on the character meaning prosperous, common, bright, to sing/chant, or unhindered. In Chinese, chóuchàng means melancholy.
She's a lovely person really.
She just made a mistake...
You know, her mum works for the Ministry,
it's really difficult for her.
Marietta Edgecombe is a witch who was a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was Sorted into Ravenclaw House. Marietta joined Dumbledore's Army at the urging of her best friend Cho Chang, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter, despite her being reluctant to get on Dolores Umbridge's bad side.
When she
became afraid that her mother's job at the Ministry of Magic might be
threatened by her membership in the organisation, Marietta betrayed the D.A. to Umbridge. This activated a jinx that caused boils to erupt on Marietta's face, and a Memory Charm was later placed on her by Kingsley Shacklebolt to prevent her from fully incriminating her fellow D.A. members.
Little is known of Marietta's life before she began attending Hogwarts. She was born into a wizarding family, so she likely received her Hogwarts acceptance letter by an owl.
Marietta is a female given name, an Italian diminutive of Maria. It means little bitter.
Edgecombe is a misspelling of Edgcumbe, an English surname. The name Edgecombe
was also used for a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina,
named after Richard Edgcumbe, a Member of Parliament from 1701 to 1742
and a Lord of the Treasury, who became 1st Baron Edgcumbe in 1742.
Michael
Corner went and got caught releasing a first-year
they'd chained up,
and they tortured him pretty badly.
That scared people off.
Michael Corner is a half-blood wizard and Ravenclaw student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in Harry Potter's year. His family had both presumably magical and muggle heritage. He was friends with house mates Terry Boot and Anthony Goldstein.
In his fifth year he joined Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry. That year, Michael also dated Ginny Weasley, though she dumped him by the end of the school year, after which Michael dated Cho Chang. In his seventh year, he rejoined the D.A.
and fought courageously in the Battle of Hogwarts, and presumably
survived, as his name was not given among the fallen deceased.
The name Michael is from the Hebrew name מִיכָאֵל , Mikha'el, meaning who is like God?.
This is a rhetorical question, implying no person is like God. Saint
Michael was one of the seven archangels in Hebrew tradition and the only
one identified as an archangel in the Bible. In the Book of Revelation
in the New Testament he is portrayed as the leader of heaven's armies,
and thus is considered the patron saint of soldiers.
Padma Patil is a British witch of Indian heritage who was in the same year as the famous Harry Potter at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was the identical twin sister of Parvati Patil. Padma was sorted into Ravenclaw house and became a prefect in her fifth year. She was also a member of Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by HarryPotter. She later bravely fought in the Battle of Hogwarts. Padma survived the final battle of the Second Wizarding War and graduated from school.
The Patils' names and appearance in the films imply that the characters are of Indian descent. Patil
is a common Marathi surname in the state of Maharashtra, India. It
signifies that at least one of Padma's ancestors was a village head in
western India. In Sanskrit, Padma means lotus, which symbolises divinity and purity, because of its nature and birth in dirty mud water.
Padma is a by-name for the Hindu goddess of prosperity, Lakshmi, the consort of the Hindu god of protection, Lord Vishnu.
Terry Boot is a British wizard and Ravenclaw student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in Harry Potter's year.
He became friends with housemates Michael Corner and Anthony Goldstein. In his fifth year Terry joined Dumbledore's Army,an organisation taught and led by HarryPotter. He fought in the Battle of Hogwarts. It can be assumed that Terry survived the final battle, as he was not mentioned among the fallen fifty.
Terry was born in Great Britain or Ireland, to at least one magical parent. Terry is
most likely a descendant of Webster Boot, the adopted son of Ilvermorny
founders James Steward (a No-Maj, or Muggle) and Isolt Sayre (a
Pure-blood and descendant of Salazar Slytherin).
Terry is a form of Terence, which means tender, or gracious.
Boot is a surname referring to a place called Boot, near Ravenglass in Cumbria.
Personally
I think this is really important, possibly more important than anything
else we'll do this year, even with our O.W.L.s coming up.
I,
personally, am at a loss to see why the Ministry has foisted such a
useless teacher on us at this critical period. Obviously,
they are in
denial about the return of You-Know-Who.
Ernest "Ernie" Macmillan is a British pure-blood wizard who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was in the same year as the famous Harry Potter and was sorted into Hufflepuff House. He was also born into the Macmillan family, one of the Sacred Twenty-Eight.
Ernie was an academically strong student and good friends with Hannah Abbott and Justin Finch-Fletchley. Ernie
initially suspected that Harry Potter was the Heir of Slytherin during
the opening of the Chamber of Secrets in his Second year. However after
Hermione Granger was petrified he told Harry that he knew Harry would
never do that to her. After he apologised to Harry for his suspicions
and accusations, the two became good friends.
It remains unknown what happened to Ernie
after the Second Wizarding War, but he likely survived as his name
wasn't listed among the casualties. His current life and occupation
remain unknown.
Ernie
was born into a pure-blood family that can trace its lineage back nine
generations; he may be related to Melania Black, Sirius Black's paternal
grandmother, a pure-blood family, which references to both his surname
and blood heritage. Although he was proud of his blood status, Ernie
was not prejudiced against those of other blood statuses, befriending
and looking out for Justin Finch-Fletchley, a Muggle-born.
And you definitely think Potter's the Heir of Slytherin?
Hannah
Abbot is a half-blood witch and a member of the Abbott family. She
started attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Hufflepuff House. Hannah was in the same year as the famous Harry Potter. In her fifth year, she became both a prefect and a member of Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter.
Hannah
was pulled out of school after her mother was murdered by Death Eaters,
but she returned the following year and was once again a member of the D.A. She fought in the Battle of Hogwarts.
Hannah
was born in Great Britain or Ireland. She was a member of the
pure-blood wizarding Abbott family that was one of the so-called Sacred
Twenty-Eight,though she herself was a half-blood, indicating she also had some Muggle heritage.
Hannah is from the Hebrew name חַנָּה, Channah, which meant favour or grace. Hannah
was the mother of the prophet Samuel in the Old Testament. As an
English name, Hannah was not regularly used until after the Protestant
Reformation.
Abbott
is a Middle English surname. An abbot was a church position below the
pope, archbishops and bishops in the Church hierarchy in the Middle
Ages. The ancestors of people with the surname Abbott probably were
abbots or abbesses in medieval times (900-1300).
My
name was down for Eton, you know. I can't tell you how glad
I am I came
here instead. Of course, Mother was slightly disappointed, but since I
made her read Lockhart's books I think she's begun to see how useful
it'll be to have a fully trained wizard in the family...
Justin Finch-Fletchley is a Muggle-born wizard. He was in the same year as the famous Harry Potter at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft andWizardry and was sorted into Hufflepuff House. Justin was a member of Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter and was good friends with housemates Ernie Macmillan and Hannah Abbott.
Unaware of his magical abilities, Justin
was headed to the English public school Eton before receiving his
letter of admission to Hogwarts. The prestige of this school and his
double-barreled surname heavily imply that Justin came from an upper-class Muggle family.
The English given name Justin is derived from the Roman name Iustinus, which is derived from justus, meaning just in Latin. It was the name of at least 8 saints. A finch is a type of small bird.
Fletchley is not a recorded surname, however Fletcher its closest equivalent is said to have lots of variations which may well be the name's source. The name Fletcher can mean either maker of arrows or a person who equips the bowman. Fletching also is the part of the arrow used to make it aerodynamic, made most notably out of bird feathers, hence Finch-Fletching.
There
were relatives of their victims among the Hogwarts students, who now
found themselves the unwilling objects of a gruesome
sort of reflected
fame as they walked the corridors:
Susan Bones, whose uncle, aunt, and
cousins had all died
at the hands of one of the ten, said miserably
during Herbology
that she now had a good idea what it felt like to be
Harry.
Susan Bones is a half-blood witch and a Hufflepuff student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was a member of the prominent Bones family, a family with strong connections to the Ministry of Magic.
Susan's
entire family, including her grandparents, uncle, aunt, and cousins
were all murdered personally by Lord Voldemort during the First
Wizarding War, and her other aunt Amelia Bones was murdered by
Voldemort. In her fifth year, Susan became a member of Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter.
Susan fought along side her fellow D.A. member in the Battle of Hogwarts.
It can be assumed that Susan survived the Second Wizarding War, as her name was not listed amongst the casualties of the fallen deceased. What happened to Susan afterwards is unknown.
Little is known about Susan's
early life, other than the fact that she was born to at least one
wizard parent, and presumably named after her aunt Amelia's middle name. Susan came from a largely magical family background, and also a rather powerful and respected family.
Due to
her family's position, they were sought after during the First Wizarding
War by Death Eaters and a large majority were killed.
Susan is the Anglicised form of Susanna, meaning Lily or Rose. The lily is often a symbol of purity. It is noted that Susan is most likely named after her Aunt Amelia Bones, whose middle name is Susan.
Bones is the word for the skeletal form of a being, many members of Susan's family are murdered or have been killed during the books and this may be in reference to this.
I don’t think Expelliarmus is exactly going to help us
against You-Know-Who, do you?
Zacharias Smith is a British wizard who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, who was sorted into and a member of Hufflepuff House. He was a Chaser on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team and a member of Dumbledore's Army, an organisation taught and led by Harry Potter. He abandoned the D.A. instead of fighting with them during the Battle of Hogwarts.
Ronald
Weasley detested him as soon as they met, mostly because of his insolent
and cynical attitude while talking to the trio and his disloyalty to HarryPotter and Hogwarts.
Zacharias was most likely born in Great Britain or Ireland.
The name Zacharias is a variant of Zechariah, a Hebrew name meaning God has remembered, this was probably a misnomer for Zacharias. This was
the name of the father of John the Baptist. He and his wife were very
old when they had John, and Zechariah was initially disbelieving when an
angel informed them they would have a son; as punishment for his doubt,
he was struck mute. This may allude to Zacharias Smith's scepticism.
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true and unafraid of toil.

SLYTHERIN STUDENTS GREGORY GOYLE
I'll make Goyle do lines, it'll kill him, he hates writing.
Gregory Goyle is a pure-blood wizard in the same year as Harry Potter at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was sorted into Slytherin House. Goyle was the son of a Death Eater and his wife. It is unknown if he was a Death Eater as well.
Goyle,
along with fellow Slytherin Vincent Crabbe, seemed to already be best
friends with Draco Malfoy before their first year at Hogwarts. Both
wizards were shown to be more lackeys than friends, often following
Malfoy around and doing his bidding.
Gregory Goyle was born into a pure-blood magical family. His father, Mr Goyle, was a Death Eater during the First Wizarding War and a loyal supporter of Lord Voldemort until his downfall. Several
Death Eaters avoided imprisonment in Azkaban by claiming that the Dark
Lord had controlled them with the Imperius Curse. It is likely that Mr
Goyle did this.
Due to all of their fathers being Death Eaters, Goyle probably knew Draco Malfoy and Vincent Crabbe before his first year at HogwartsSchool of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Like many new students, he might have purchased his wand from Ollivanders in Diagon Alley.
The name Gregory is derived from Greek meaning watchful, alert. It is also associated with the Grigori, the Watchers, a group of fallen angels who mated with mortal women to spawn a race of giants. This may allude to Goyle frequently acting like a bodyguard to Draco Malfoy and to his large frame.
His last name is probably from gargoyle,
small monsters used to decorate buildings. The Gargouille also was a
legendary water monster living in the River Seine in Paris, France. Gargoyles served as gutters/downspouts on gothic buildings. The word Gargoyle is derived from the French gargouille and the Latin gargula which translate to throat in contemporary English. Related words include gargle and gurgle.
Interestingly,
gargoyles' supposed jobs are to watch over the building they are
perched on. They are portrayed as grim and monstrous characters.
Pansy Parkinson is a witch in Harry Potter's year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was born into the Parkinson family, members of the Sacred Twenty-Eight. Pansy
was sorted into Slytherin House and in her fifth year became a prefect.
In the same year she became a member of the short-lived Inquisitorial
Squad.
When the final battle of the Second Wizarding War broke out at Hogwarts, Pansy spoke up in favour of turning Harry Potter over to Lord Voldemort. This reaction caused the majority of her schoolmates to draw their wands upon her in Harry's defence.
It can be assumed that Pansy
survived the Second Wizarding War, as she left the Great Hall with the
other Slytherins before the Battle of Hogwarts broke out and most likely
did not return to the castle to fight. Also sometime after the war, Pansy apparently fell out with her former friend Draco Malfoy.
Pansy
was born in Great Britain or Ireland. She was a member of the Parkinson
family and a possible descendent of Perseus Parkinson, a former
Minister for Magic. Her family is listed as one of the Sacred
Twenty-Eight. As Pansy was born after the directory was published, it is
unknown if she was pure-blood herself.
A pansy is a type of violet. Its name is derived from the French word pensée, meaning thought or remembrance. In William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream,
the juice of the pansy flower is used as a Love Potion. In folklore,
the pansy represents separated lovers. The slang term pansy can also
refer to a cowardly person, or a weak and effeminate male. The face of a
Persian cat, flat and squashed, is sometimes described as a pansy face, and may refer to PansyParkinson's looks. Pan was the Greek god of the wild, forests, nature, etc. His name means all; however the literal meaning in Ancient Greek of Pan is rustic.
Parkinson is an English surname meaning son of Parkin, with Parkin itself being a diminutive form of the given name Peter, which comes from the Greek petros, meaning rock or stone. The idea behind giving an antagonistic character the name Parkinson may derive from Parkinson's disease, a brain disease that causes degradation of motor skills and speech.
Vincent Crabbe is a pure-blood wizard, and the son of Death Eater Crabbe Sr. He came from a line of Dark Wizards and Death Eaters, with his father and possibly grandfather before him.
Vincent Crabbe was also a student at Hogwarts and a member of Slytherin House. Crabbe
and Gregory Goyle were rarely seen without their ringleader Draco
Malfoy. While Dolores Umbridge was Headmistress, he joined the
Inquisitorial Squad with Goyle and Malfoy. In his last year at Hogwarts,
he became a Dark Wizard. He learned to cast powerful dark curses, such
as the Killing and the Cruciatus Curses.
Vincent Crabbe was born into the pure-blood Crabbe family.
His father, Mr Crabbe, was a Death Eater. This likely influenced his
son's prejudice against Muggle-borns and other non-pure-bloods. Vincent was related, in some way, to Irma Black.
Vincent means conqueror or victor.
His last name is probably a variation of crab, a small, round
crustacean with two large claws in front, or informal English for a
grumpy person.
