ALEXIA PUTELLAS SEGURA, THE GOLDEN CATALAN PLAYER

Today, The Grandma has been reading about Alexia Putellas Segura, the best contemporary female footballer in the world.

Alexia Putellas Segura (4 February 1994) is a Catalan professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Futbol Club Barcelona, which she captains.

Having won all major club and individual awards available to a European player by 2022, she is widely regarded as the best contemporary female footballer in the world, and one of the greatest of all time.

Putellas has played for FC Barcelona since 2012 after spending most of her youth career in the ranks of Espanyol. Since joining FC Barcelona, she has won six league titles, seven Copas de la Reina, and one UEFA Women's Champions League title.

In FC Barcelona's 2020-21 season, she played an essential role as her team won the UEFA Women's Champions League as well as the resulting continental treble, both for the first time in their history.

Putellas later went on to win the UEFA Women's Player of the Year Award, the Ballon d'Or Féminin, and The Best FIFA Women's Player in 2021, becoming the first player to win all three in the same year.

In 2022, despite missing the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 due to injury, she won the UEFA Women's Player of the Year Award and the Ballon d'Or Féminin, each for a second consecutive year, making her the first woman to do so.

As of 2022, Putellas has the second-most all-time appearances for FC Barcelona Femení behind former left back Melanie Serrano, and is currently their second-highest all-time scorer behind former striker Jennifer Hermoso.

Alexia Putellas Segura was born on 4 February 1994, to Jaume Putellas Rota and Elisabet 'Eli' Segura Sabaté in Mollet del Vallès, a municipality in the province of Barcelona.

Putellas has been a supporter of FC Barcelona since her early childhood. As a child, Putellas would travel with the Penya of Mollet del Vallès to watch FC Barcelona's matches at the Camp Nou with her father. She would also watch FC Barcelona matches at a local bar called La Bolera with her family.

Despite being born into a basketball-playing family, Putellas first began playing football in 2001 at seven years old. The first club she played for was with CE Sabadell, after she was enrolled through a family friend who played for the club.

In 2005, Putellas spent a year in FC Barcelona's youth academy. When she was twelve, Putellas joined the youth teams of RCD Espanyol, where she stayed for four years.

Putellas moved back to FC Barcelona in the summer of 2012.

On 25 August 2022, Putellas was awarded the UEFA Women's Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season. Months later, on 17 October 2022, Putellas won the Ballon d'Or Feminin for the second consecutive year, making her the first female to win the award twice.

Guanyem i serem eternes.
Però és com juguem,
no oblideu que
des del primer minuts fins el darrer,
fins el darrer,
som el Barça fins al final.

We win and we'll eternal.
But it's about how we play,
don't forget that
from the first minute to the last,
to the end,
we are Barça to the end.
