'SUSPICIOUS MINDS' IN LAS VEGAS, THE KING & FATIMA

Today, The Stones have met one of the legends of entertainment in Las Vegas, The King, Elvis Presley. They have been invited by Mr. Presley's assistant, Fatima, and they have asked him lots of things about his life, his career and his songs. It has been an unforgettable evening that they will always have in their minds, especially when Elvis has dedicated Suspicious Minds to them.

Suspicious Minds is a 1968 song written and first recorded by American songwriter Mark James

After this recording failed commercially, it was cut by Elvis Presley with producer Chips Moman, becoming a No.1 song in 1969, and one of the most memorable hits of Presley's career.

Suspicious Minds was one of the singles that revived Presley's chart success in the U.S., following his '68 Comeback Special. It was his eighteenth and last No.1 single in the United States. Rolling Stone ranked it No. 91 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Session guitarist Reggie Young played on both the James and Presley versions.

The song is about a mistrusting and dysfunctional relationship, and the need of the characters to overcome their issues in order to maintain it.

Written in 1968 by Mark James, who was also co-writer of Always on My Mind, which Presley would later record, the song was first recorded and released by James on Scepter Records in 1968. Chips Moman had asked James to come to Memphis to write songs for American Sound Studio. At the time, James was residing in Houston. He had written three songs that became No.1 hits in the Southern United States. American Sound Studio was gaining a reputation in the industry, as the Box Tops had just recorded The Letter there, so James relocated to Memphis.

James said that late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were caught in this trap that they could not walk out of

At the recording session, James sang the lead vocals, and the studio band backed him; Moman produced. The horns, strings, and vocals of the Holladay Sisters were later overdubbed. After the tape was mixed, James and Moman flew to New York, where James's manager had contacts with Scepter Records. The label loved the song and put it out, but Scepter did not have the money to promote new artists, and the song did not make the charts.

Later that year, Don Crews, Moman's partner, told James that Presley had booked their studio to record what would become the From Elvis in Memphis album. Crews kept asking James if he had any songs that would be right for Presley. James felt Presley needed a mature rock 'n' roll song to bring him back, as Tom Jones was a hot artist at the time. Crews and James thought of Suspicious Minds and James began urging others to get Presley to hear it. Even though James's recording had not been commercially successful, upon reviewing the song, Presley decided he could turn it into a hit.

'ALOHA FROM HAWAII VIA SATELLITE' BY ELVIS PRESLEY

Yesterday, Jessica Fletcher and The Grandma were talking about a friend in common who was celebrating her 95th anniversary, Angela Lansbury.

Angela is considered one of the most respectable actresses currently and she has a long career with great roles in theatre, TV and cinema.

Jessica and The Grandma remember how Angela explained to them about one of her favourite films, Blue Hawaii, a movie filmed in Hawaii with Elvis Presley. They have been talking about this film and about one of the most popular Elvis's LP's and films, Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite.

Blue Hawaii is a 1961 American musical romantic comedy film directed by Norman Taurog and starring Elvis Presley.

The screenplay by Hal Kanter was nominated by the Writers Guild of America in 1962 in the category of Best Written American Musical.

The film opened at number two in box office receipts for that week and, despite mixed reviews from critics, finished as the 10th top-grossing film of 1961 and 14th for 1962 on the Variety national box office survey, earning $5 million. The film won a fourth place prize Laurel Award in the category of Top Musical of 1961

Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite is a live album by American singer and musician Elvis Presley, released by RCA Records in February 1973.

It peaked at #1 on the Billboard chart in the spring of the same year. Despite the satellite innovation, the US did not air the concert until April 4.

Aloha from Hawaii, which was a worldwide ratings smash, went to #1 on the Billboard album chart. The album dominated the charts, reaching #1 in both the pop and country charts in the US.

The album was certified Gold on February 13, 1973, platinum and 2× Platinum on May 20, 1988, 3× Platinum on July 15, 1999, and 5× Platinum on August 1, 2002, by the RIAA. On April 15, 2016, the BPI certified the album Silver for sales of 60,000 units.

Aloha from Hawaii is a two-disc set -only the second such release of Presley's career, the first being 1969's double set From Memphis to Vegas/From Vegas to Memphis, which contained one album each of studio and concert recordings. It was initially released only in quadraphonic sound, becoming the first album in the format to top the Billboard album chart. After Quadrophonic sound failed to catch on, RCA issued a standard stereophonic version of the album.

The album contains all the live performances from the TV special, but omits the five songs Presley recorded after the show and which were featured on the original broadcast; these would be issued later on the album Mahalo from Elvis. The album also omits Presley's brief announcement concerning the concert being presented for the benefit of the Kui Lee Cancer Fund.

This is the penultimate live album that Presley released during his lifetime, the last being Elvis Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis the following year. Later soundtracks for the TV special Elvis in Concert and the documentary This Is Elvis were released posthumously.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN WALKS INTO THE THUNDER ROAD

Bruce Springsteen, born September 23, 1949 is an American musician, singer, songwriter and humanitarian. He is best known for his work with his E Street Band. Nicknamed The Boss, Springsteen is widely known for his brand of poetic lyrics, Americana, working class and sometimes political sentiments centred on his native New Jersey, his distinctive voice and his lengthy and energetic stage performances, with concerts from the 1970s to the present decade running over four hours in length.

Springsteen's recordings have included both commercially accessible rock albums and more folk-oriented works. His most successful studio albums, Born to Run (1975) and Born in the USA (1984), showcase a talent for finding grandeur in the struggles of daily American life. He has sold more than 64 million albums in the United States and more than 120 million records worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. He has earned numerous awards for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and an Academy Award as well as being inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

Bruce Springsteen draws on many musical influences from the reservoir of traditional American popular music, folk, blues and country. From the beginning, rock and roll has been a dominant influence and Springsteen's musical and lyrical evocations, as well as public tributes, of artists such as Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Gary Bonds, and many others helped to rekindle interest in their music. Springsteen's other preferred musical style is American folk, evident on his debut album, Greetings from Asbury Park and more strongly on Nebraska and The Ghost of Tom Joad. Springsteen songs such as This Hard Land demonstrate the lyrical and musical influence of Woody Guthrie.

Often described as cinematic in their scope, Springsteen's lyrics frequently explore highly personal themes such as individual commitment, dissatisfaction and dismay with life in a context of everyday situations. It has been recognized that there was a shift in his lyrical approach starting with the album Darkness on the Edge of Town, in which he focused on the emotional struggles of working class life.

The best music is essentially there to provide you
something to face the world with.

THE THREE KINGS: FACT OR FICTION?

The Three Kings of Orient
When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage.

Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

The Holy Bible

The Magi (aka The Three Kings of Orient) are Melchior, Caspar and Balthasar. We don’t know a lot about these three characters who appear January, 5 at night and bring presents to the children.

Maybe, Melchior was Persian…

Maybe, Caspar was Indian…

Maybe, Balthasar was Arabian…

Maybe…

Maybe, they’ll appear in the middle of the night and millions of children will fill their lives of joy and smiles.

In the last decades, the King has been only one: Elvis Presley!

Have a wonderful and magic night!
